Obituary of Milton Holt Cheek

Milton Holt Cheek, 82, a loving father, husband, grandfather and uncle went to be with his Lord on July 7, 2013. Mr. Cheek, a lifelong member of the Carrboro Community, was born March 29, 1931. He was the ninth child of Marvin and Mae Cheek. He retired from Fitch Lumber Company after 37 years of service. He spent many long days delivering wood shavings to area farms during his lunch and after work. During his retirement he continued to work at his home, around his apartments and enjoyed his "rock farm" business. His joy of family and hard work will remain with all who knew him. He served in the Korean War as a military policeman at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was a long time member of both Antioch Baptist Church and Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Andrews Cheek, of 41 years, his brothers: Kenneth Cheek, Emmett Cheek, James B. Cheek, and Toy Cheek all of Chapel Hill, his sisters: Elizabeth Neville and Christine Lloyd of Chapel Hill, Rebecca Bland of Durham and Norena Poplin of Raleigh. He is survived by his second wife, Katherine Thompson Wilkerson-Cheek, of 20 years, his daughter, Pam and Lee Wagoner, grandchildren: Meghan and Zach Pritchard, and Seddon of Hickory; his son, Tony and Cindy Cheek of Efland and grandchildren: Barbara Ann (Jason Cole) Cheek of Durham and great-grandchild, Brianne Oliver of Hillsborough, Ben Cheek of Raleigh, and Jon and Jackie Cheek and great-grandchild, Rosa Lia of Carrboro; and his youngest daughter, Janice and Joe Campbell and grandchildren Bobby and Angela Campbell, and Chris (Amanda Jackson) Campbell and great-grandchildren Matthew and Hayliegh,all of Carrboro, his stepson Paul and Lisa Wilkinson and grandchildren Royce and Jessica Wilkinson and great-granddaughter, Gracie, Chase and Sarah Kernodle; Jared (Maggie) Kernodle, Amanda and Kevin Lane and great-grandson Colton of Hurdle Mills; his other stepson Rocky and Cathy Wilkerson and grandchildren Brock and Wendy Wilkerson and great-granddaughters, Allie and Ava, Brittany and Marc Johnson also of Hurdle Mills. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-9 PM at Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill. The funeral service will be at Antioch Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 10 at 3 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
