Obituary of Madeline Copeland Curl

DURHAM - Madeline Copeland Curl, 82, died Monday, May 20 at her home in Croasdaile Village, Durham NC following a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of Alvis & Lizzie Wilson Copeland of Orange County, and a graduate of Chapel Hill High School. Mrs. Curl was an Executive Secretary until her retirement from UNC-Chapel Hill, where she served in several departments. Mrs. Curl was a Christian and member of Antioch Baptist Church of Orange County, and in previous years taught Sunday School, Bible School and led in Girl's Auxiliary. In her retirement years she was an avid gardener, and pursued her 'yard-of the month' awards and seasonal landscaping with passion! 'Mimi' adored all of her grandchildren and cherished the time spent with each one. Her generous heart and endless Christmas cards will be remembered by all. She is survived by daughters, Cheryle Atwater and Toni Buck; sons-in-law, Raymond Atwater & Gary Buck; grandchildren, Jonathan Atwater (and wife, Veronika), Jeremy Buck (and wife, Kelley), Justin Buck (and wife, Anne Marie), and Jordan Buck; great-grandchildren, Torben Atwater, Jaycey Buck, and Hayley Loftus; and sister, Susie Pendergrass (and husband, Lindy). Her loving grandson, Drew Atwater; brother, Louis Allen; and former husband, David Curl, predeceased her. A funeral will be held Thursday, May 23 at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, preceded by visitation with the family at 1:00, and followed by a graveside service at Clover Garden Methodist Church.
