Henry Jackson Morris, 83, of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018.
Henry was born on September 16, 1934, to the late Eric Moody and Nettie Cooke Morris in Durham, NC. He retired from the Chapel Hill Post Office after 30 years of service as a letter carrier. After his retirement, Henry worked (and played) at the Occoneechee Golf Club. He proudly served the community in a number of capacities. Organizations included the White Cross Volunteer Fire Department, Orange County Crime Stoppers, and the White Cross Recreation Department. For years, Henry enjoyed time spent with the Square Heel Square Dance Club. He was a member, deacon, and trustee of the Antioch Baptist Church where he also served as treasurer for almost 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 36 years and mother of his children, Shirley Cole Morris, and siblings, Ruth Morris, Marvin Morris, Phyllis Lineberry, and Carolyn Morris. He is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Earlene Overman Guthrie Morris; daughter, Beverly (Joe) Emory; son, Duane (Pam) Morris, sisters, Nancy (Bob) Andrews and Brenda (Eddie) Crain; sister-in-law, Ann Craven Morris; granddaughters Tracy Morris and Kayla (James) Salvatore; great grandson, Slade Salvatore and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill, with Pastor Dave Atwater officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
