Obituary of Evelyn P. Durham

Evelyn Eugene Durham June 5, 1931-March 26, 2013 Evelyn Eugene "Bird" Durham, 81, of Chapel Hill, NC died March 26th, 2013. She was born in Durham, NC, the daughter of Walter Leo Pickett and Minnie Finch Cole Pickett. Bird was a graduate of Durham High School. In 1955 she was married to Charles Mebane Durham at Yates Baptist Church in Durham, NC. They have three children and seven grandchildren. Bird was employed by the UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools, and Duke Power. She worked as an administrative assistant at each of her employ. Bird was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she was a member of the church choir. Bird was a devoted wife and mother who was dearly love by all who knew her. Her passion in life was being with family and cooking. She is pre-deceased by her husband. She leaves behind her children Stanley Charles Durham, Sr. of Columbia, SC, and his family: wife Jane Ashley Durham, and children Brittany Lee McAndrews / Charles McAndrews, Stanley Charles Durham Jr., and Madison McKenzie Durham; Daughter Beverly Durham Grabowski, of Chapel Hill, NC and children Emma Clare Grabowski and Evelyn Kate Grabowski; Kelton Strowd Durham of Manhattan Beach, CA, and his family, wife Terri Parsons Durham, and children, Charles Grant Durham, and Grace Cameron Durham. She also leaves behind two sisters, Affie Pickett Collins, LaVerne Pickett Tilley and a brother Donald Pickett. She is also pre-deceased by 4 sisters, Marjorie Turner, Mary Helon Merritt, and Jane Lloyd and 5 brothers, W.L. Pickett, Macks Pickett, Philip Pickett LeRoy and Burle Pickett. There will be a visitation service at 11:00a.m. followed by the funeral service at 12 noon on Friday March 29th at Antioch Baptist Church. There will be a celebration of Bird's Life to follow at the church fellowship hall after the graveside service In lieu of Flowers, we would ask that donations be made to the Antioch Baptist Church - Youth Ministries, 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
