Obituary of James Maiden Jennings

Mr. James M. Jennings, husband of Doris Underwood Jennings, died Tuesday evening at Carolina Reserve in Durham, NC.
Mr. Jennings was born in Middlesboro, KY on November 13, 1929, to the late Mary Elizabeth Smith Jennings and Maiden Belt Jennings. He was raised in Virginia, did his undergraduate studies at Emory & Henry College and received his Masters degree from the University of Virginia. He continued his education by pursuing a Doctoral Degree at The University of North Carolina while also teaching at Lenoir-Rhyne University. In 1969, he relocated to Chapel Hill to raise his family. He founded Triangle Advertising in 1972, and retired as the owner/operator in 2005 after a successful 33 year career.
Mr. Jennings was a member of University Lodge #408, AF & AM, Chapel Hill. He was also a member of the Orange County Shrine Club. Mr. Jennings was Potentate of Amran Shrine Center Raleigh in 1995. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Jennings is survived by his son, David Jennings, and his wife, Joy, of Durham; daughter, Karen Strickland, and her husband, Bruce, of Hillsborough; and his grandson, William David Jennings.
Mr. Jennings was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Jennings, and Fern Jennings Frutchey.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at 12:00pm at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 2016, Mt. Carmel Church Road, Chapel Hill. Officiating will be Rev. Barrett Freeman. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery on Parker Road. The family will receive visitors prior to the service, from 11:00 - 12:00pm in the church.
