June Dorothea Gahrs Scott, resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on March 9, 2013, after an extended illness. A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, June was also a resident of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, for the past twelve years.
June was born May 31, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the daughter of the late Aimiee Smith Gahrs and Arthur Fredrich Gahrs, cherished wife of the late Walter Irving Scott, Jr., and mother of her late beloved son, Walter Irving Scott, III. June is survived by her son Ward Ivor Scott, her daughters-in-law Genine Sander Scott and Vivian Elizabeth (Beth) Thibaut Scott, her grandchildren Debra Scott (Bradley) Delony, Tim Rogers, T.R. Sander Scott, and Bennett Arthur Charles Scott, great-grandchild Garrett Delony, dear friends Marguerite Scully and Homer Rasch, and numerous nieces and nephews.
June will be remembered for her happy personality, her devotion to the Blessed Mother, and her intense love of politics. Rosary and visitation will be held on Sunday, March 17th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Walker's Funeral Home, 120 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, March 18th, at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 940 Carmichael Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27514, with a reception held afterward at the church hall. Interment will be at St. Thomas More Catholic Church Columbarium at a date yet to be determined. The family wishes to thank the kind nurses and staff of Amedisys Home Health and Hospice for their care and compassion over the years.
