John Johnson
John was a wonderful, funny, kind and giving person. His ready wit was the greatest. He could always be counted on. Whether it was to cheer you up or lend a helping hand he was always there.
He was talented. If you were ever a recipient of one of his handmade wooden gifts, you were very lucky for there were none better. John had a knack for knowing just what you needed; a wooden chest, a bookshelf, a table, he could do it all whatever the need.
He was also a very intelligent person with a phenomenal memory; for cars, for antiques and for people and what was important to them. He cared deeply for family. He felt loss deeply. He loved all his children and grandchildren deeply but the loss of his baby girl, Sarah Elizabeth, was devastating.
He also loved my children, Dianna and Chris very much. I have no happier memory than of John playing with them in the sand at the beach. Watching over Christopher Crab and Dianna as they build sandcastles and helping them both build the moat around them. He put his whole heart into what he did.
I will miss him very much.

I met Big John at the Raleigh Flea Market. We became friends through reminiscing about our mutual time in the franchise car business. What stories. John was recognized as the consummate expert of all things, particularly antiques and such. I thought he was the book of knowledge until one day I accidentally caught him and his secret. He looked up all my questions on his I-phone. Duh me. No, he WAS a vast book of knowledge. I love the man, and miss him. He became the pinnacle of what anyone can strive be, a good and trusted friend.

My Uncle John was the sweetest and funniest person I’ve ever had in my life. I know for a fact my brother and I had an even happier childhood because of him.
Whether it was playing monopoly at the beach or him and my Aunt being a huge part of all of our Christmases even after we moved hours away.
He was basically Santa. Not only did he bring us more gifts than we deserved but the whole atmosphere in our house was elevated once he and Aunt Ginny arrived.
We would go to bed and the sound of laughter from my mom, dad, him, and Ginny would carry upstairs and make me smile.
And if you knew John you know the laughs were from his stories and jokes.
He was so easy to love and I am lucky to have had him as part of my family.
I love you, Uncle John, you had such a big heart and we’ll always remember and miss you. ❤️❤️❤️

I met Leon (John) while working at the flea market. I always enjoyed discussing with him about the myriad of topics he was knowledgeable in. I introduced him to my future wife who also enjoyed John's stories and humor. My wife and I often stopped by the market just to touch base with John and spend some time catching up. John always adopted a positive attitude at the market even when his health took a downward turn. John has been and will continue to be missed by his flea market family.

John was a good man and a good friend. I always enjoyed the time I was able to spend with him at the Flea Market. I admired how he persevered and pressed on despite the physical difficulty and pain he suffered, never losing his sense of humor. We'll miss him.
