Joseph P. Duenas posted a condolence

I had the opportunity and privilege of working with “Captain D’ from the day I first joined the organization until the day he retired (and even beyond then). He loved his family and our country and his many contributions, known to only a few, left a lasting legacy within the Navy and its operating forces. My deepest condolences.

To the family of Captain D.
I was one of the fortunate Naval Officers to have worked under the tutelage of Captain D for the years’ 1990-1994. I was the Deputy Program Manager for The Office of Naval Research Low Observables and Counter Low Observables Office. We worked for the Admiral at ONR directly, but who we really answered to and for what we really did was Captain D. He did so much to advance both the Navy’s technologies and the Nation’s technologies. He was a visionary and personally guided me to share his vision. I always knew he was there to mentor me. He is truly one of America’s unsung patriots, just because only a few will ever know of his classified work environment.
My deepest sympathies,
Larry Myers

I only knew "Captain D" professionally starting in 1994, but his contribution to the Navy and the Nation continues to be realized. His leadership, advice and counsel (even after his formal retirement) caused what some might have considered "pipe dreams" to become reality ....and are now in the Fleet! You, his family, should realize how important Captain D was to the Nation. He was a good man and is with God.

I was a high school classmate of Leanne and knew the family during that time. I read this in the Washington post today and wanted to express my condolances. I remember the Dewispelaere family as being very strong, very supportive and "a great Navy family" that stayed together and played together. I am sorry for your loss.
