Hilda was one of the rare People in my life that I really wanted to deserve a respect from..she was one of the nicest, kindness, empathatic People I have ever met and Cydney you are her exact copy while Michele was so much Like your Dad, she inherited his strength. I was looking forward seeing her at Micha's Wedding but when I heard she can't travel I was planning returning with Michele to visit her. I am truly sorry for not seeing her but if I Will be able to I would love to participate at her funeral. I will make donation to my hometown Red Cross chapter, they are doing wonderful things helping many older folks who are living in villages forgoten by their families and solely depending on Red Cross for help. Hilda Will appreciate it wherever she is but I know she is close. I Will truly miss her, she was one of a kind. I am happy having her in my life, I Will never forget her.

I was only lucky enough to know Hilda for the last 3 years since becoming her neighbor and friend. I was so impressed by her strength, wisdom and wit. I will miss her funny responses to my Facebook posts, sending her figs from our tree and looking across the yard at the hawks that circle between our houses. I haven't seen our roof owl lately so my guess is she and Hilda are off on a fly-about... Much love to Michele, Cyd and Brian and all the grandchildren.

I never met Hilda, but feel as though I knew her.
Cyd has posted so many wonderful videos, pictures and sentiments over the years. I have been privy to the unconditional love this mother and daughter shared.
I will surely miss the interaction and bond I have been blessed to witness.
May knowing there is more than this earthly life bring comfort to those mourning the loss of this special lady.

I came upon a story today that my mom wrote and would sometimes tell about her farm life days. We always loved hearing these stories.
Mom wrote:
"Today is Monday, the day we usually go to the fitness center and stay longer for yoga, but it is raining and Joe has an appointment this afternoon. We are staying home.
Let me think back to the old days for a story. How about an animal story? As small children, we never had a dog. We did have cats who lived in the barn and fended for themselves. When the mother cat had babies, it was in the barn loft. Ruth and I would find them and immediately decide which kittens were hers and which were mine. Ruth liked the black kittens. I liked the gray ones because they had an M on their forehead to match my middle name Marie. There were a number of animals around, but no dogs. We chose Old Red as a pet cow when she was just a heifer. We would ride on her back when she was in the stall. Of course there was Speckle the chicken. She must have imprinted on us as a biddy, and would follow us around. I think I have told that story, but will repeat it.
I must have been around 10 years old. Dan was six years younger, and when he was around three, his asthma had gotten so bad that he was Mama and Daddy's major concern. They took him regularly to a specialist in Charlotte. They gave him all the tests to learn what his worst allergies were. He couldn’t eat anything with wheat flour, so mother developed all these rye flour recipes. Then they said he was so allergic to dust and feathers, so they covered his pillows and mattresses with plastic. His room was the cleanest sparsest room in the house. Still, the doctor said that we must get rid of all the chickens on the farm.
Daddy started gathering up all the chickens and putting them into coops. Ruth and I were standing there watching him. When he caught Speckle we started crying, "Oh, please not Speckle. Let us keep just one chicken." As he held Speckle in both hands, he said, "If I kept one chicken, it would not be Speckle. This hen hasn't laid an egg in years." He was looking up at Ruth and me as he said this. Speckle was squawking as if she knew something was wrong. Suddenly a funny look came over Daddy's face. He pulled the hand away that held the back end of Speckle to show an egg that she had just laid in his hand. He gently put Speckle down to run away. From then on, she was the only chicken on the farm. I don't think she ever laid another egg."
