Missy: Tonight, as our family said our prayers, I called Andy’s name, and that of your family. Our daughter, Amali, has for weeks been telling us about a boy on whom she has a crush, and for several days when we have asked about how he has been doing (she talks about him every evening at the dinner table when we talk about the day) he has been absent from school. You have no doubt figured out it is Elliott. We only put the pieces together tonight. I wish I had been able to connect with Andy on this. In addition, my wife, Halona, has a sister whom I think you may know- Melanie Patrick- of Emerald Doulas. If and when you are ready, I hope that our families can get together. We were already thinking we wanted to meet you even before now, not knowing that Elliott is Andy’s son. Meanwhile, please know that we are thinking of and praying for each and all of you. Ted

Even though I worked with Andy for a short amount of time it was a pleasure to work next to him and get to know him. Hear his funny stories and to see a smile on his face. It won't be the same walking down the hall not smelling straight black coffee or having someone to fuss at for not wearing a jacket in 20 degree weather. He will truly be missed.

Andy worked with me at UNC Law School. He was thoughtful, diligent and generous in spirit. We talked often about family, and it was clear that he loved his family deeply. I remember our talks about the wonder and joy of holding babies, and watching him play with his children during a chance encounter at Southern Village Community Park. Words fail my efforts to express how saddened I am that he is gone. God bless Andy and keep his family, Missy, Elliott, Violet, Oliver, Iris, and James. In these days, and in the days, months and years to come, I hope the memory of his love eclipses all else.
