Nidia was the quinessential reference librarian. She mentored many young librarians during her time at HSL. She taught them the importance of putting the patron first. She was an avid UNC fan, although once she made tar heel cookies for the Duke BB team as they traveled to a final four game. She was involved in community projects and gave each project her all, always with a smile on her face and good word to say about all she worked with. She loved to travel and my family and I enjoyed listening to her stories. But, most of all to me, she was my long time close friend and my confident. She played a significant role in my life and the lives of my two sons, who thought of her as a third grandma. She was there for my wedding, the birth of both boys, holidays, graduations, trips, and always ready to come to my rescue when I called. We had the joy of having Christmas dinner with her and Caroline, an evening I will always treasure. Words really cannot express what she meant to me and to my family. Her pasinng was too sudden for us, but she had in the last months finished up projects and visited with family and friends. So, for Nidia I believe she looks at her passing as the perfect ending to a most wonderful life. Cathy, George, George, and Christopher Chiesa
