ERNESTINE WILEY SMITH
Ernestine Wiley Smith, 100, formerly of Princeton, WV died peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was surrounded by her family who adored her. Ernie was known for her kind and compassionate spirit, her endless laughter, and her home that was always open to anyone she could help.
Ernie was born April 21, 1919 in Lovern, WV. She was the daughter of the late Earl Stonewall Jackson Wiley and Rhoda Via Wiley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Smith; one sister, Rhelda Reed; and one brother, Cecil Wiley, who was killed in World War II. Before retirement, Ernie worked as a alcohol and drug counselor at Southern Highlands in Princeton. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Princeton as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by her daughter, Fran Smith of Mebane, NC; three sons, Hugh Smith (Dana) of Alpharetta, GA, Ed Smith (Katherine) of Roanoke, VA, and Charlie Smith of Burlington, NC; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to join the family in remembering Ernie in a service that will be held at Seavers Funeral Home in Princeton beginning at noon for visitation Saturday January 4th, 2020 with service at 1:00 PM. A celebration of Life for Mom will be held at Fran's home, 1311 St. Andrews Drive, Mebane, Sunday, January 12th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
