Over the years our children were able to help Sue with various jobs around her house. She gave them plenty of opportunities to develop good work habits. They cut her grass, raked her leaves, and took care of her dog Jessie while she went shag dancing. Our children will always be grateful for her generous spirit and kindness.
We will miss getting calls from her to get her K & W Cafeteria meals and her chocolate chip cookies.
She was sweet!

Sue and I were backyard neighbors growing up and became really close friends through the years of adolescence and after. We were always at each other's house during the week, so much so that our parents treated each of us like another child in their family. Sue and I shared many likes and dislikes....especially dancing and boys! Many of us remember dancing with the doorknob as our partner, and Sue had that move down pat! Sue spent several vacation trips with my family at White Lake during the summer. I had my driver's license before she did, so she rode shotgun many, many times as we rode up and down Franklin Street in Chapel Hill from the O'Boy to the Frozen Custard trying to see who we could see! And, of course, we always had to make that quick tour around campus before heading home! She and I practiced the jumps required for cheer leading in my yard for days....she made it, but my legs were too short to make those splits in the air look as good as she did! She not only was good in the athletic field, which made her one heck of a cheerleader, but she also had the Wildcat spirit! She not only loved playing basketball in high school, but she loved following the Tarheels at UNC!
Her parents were special folks. Sue and her Mom, Carolyn, were very close. As it has been said, she was so totally devoted to her parents, as they were to her.
It is hard to lose a good friend. Even though we went in different directions after high school, we stayed in touch through the years. I have missed you through the years, Sue, and I will miss you even more now. May you rest in peace and may you rest with your Mom and Dad. Thank you for your part in making my life a little happier.

Sue was a joy to be around at CHHS. She was a talented basketball player and I enoyed being her bench-warming teammate. We also shared good times as cheerleaders. I'm grateful to have known Sue and will always remember that bright, bright smile, her shag dancing and her fun sense of humor. Rest in Peace.

I have many fond memories of Sue. I guess we first met when our family moved from Chapel Hill to Carrboro just in time start 2nd grade. At that time, Carrboro was a very small, close-knit community. It seemed that everyone's parents were life-long friends, and it was only natural that their kids became so as well. I remember those great parties at Bev's and Cindy's houses LONG before any of us were old enough to drive. Sue was always a part of that group. She was my very first "date". We went to a movie. I don't remember the name, but I think Pat Boone was in it. Of course, our parents had to drive us.
After elementary school, all the Carrboro kids went to Jr High in Chapel Hill. We became part of a larger universe and lost some of that "close-knit" feel. But I still remember Sue as a cheer leader and an avid supporter of the Mighty Wildcats. After high school and college and moving from Carrboro, I was fortunate enough to maintain contact with the Carrboro crew through our band, the Nomads. It seems that every time we played at a venue open to the public, Sue was there to support us.
I remember when she and her mother were critically injured when they were struck by a motorist while walking and their courageous efforts to recover. Sue was always loyal to her family, and that was never more evident than during that period when she was always at her mother side offering encouragement.
Sue (and her family) were a significant part of Carrboro life, and her memory will remain so. We should all hope to be remembered as fondly as she is. May she rest in peace.
