Obituary of Joyce Clark Luxton

Joyce Anna Clark Luxton, 89, passed away on Feb. 14, 2020 at her residence at Brookdale Assisted Living in Chapel Hill, where she was also receiving hospice care.
Joyce grew up in Carrboro and was 1 of 10 children of the late John Walter and Daisey Ivey Clark. She graduated from Chapel Hill High School and resided in Orange or Durham counties throughout her life.
Joyce was an accomplished seamstress who worked for Williams Upholstery Shop in Chapel Hill for many years. Outside of the upholstery business she also loved sewing outfits for herself and her many family members. Joyce enjoyed square dancing and recounting stories of the many colorful characters and events of her youth. In her retirement years she could be found working on crossword puzzles, painting, crafting, and organizing and attending events with her co-residents of Emerald Pond, where she lived for more than 10 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J. Louis Luxton, her sister- Margaret Clark Childress and brothers- John Walter Clark, Ollie Edwin Clark, William Harold Clark, Marvin Marion Clark, Kenneth Franklin Clark, Eugene Womach Clark, Bobby Raymond Clark and Jimmy Cook Clark
She is survived by her children- son James Virgil Luxton, daughter Marianne Pickett (husband Michael), son Donald Keith Luxton (wife Mary Beth), grandchildren- Lindsay Luxton, David M. Pickett (wife Canaco), Gregory B. Luxton (wife Brittany), and 3 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 22 from 12:45 – 1:45 pm at Walker's Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 2:00 pm with the Reverend Kevin Georgas officiating. After the service, burial will take place at the Ephesus Cemetery - Jubilee Baptist Church in Chapel Hill.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale as well as Doctors Making House Calls and Heartland Hospice whose compassion and care was invaluable.
