Obituary of Maria Elizabeth Lauritano

Mrs. Maria E. Lauritano, 93, died Saturday morning at Brookdale of Chapel Hill.

Maria Lauritano was born in Chelsea, New York City to Andrea (Henry) Savarese and Sarah (Sadie) Pisapia Savarese. The third of five children, she married Salvatore G Lauritano (1924-1986) on June 5, 1949. The couple resided in Brooklyn until their move to NJ in 1957 and their new home in Fair Lawn.

Besides being a dedicated wife and mother, Maria worked at Fair Lawn Book Bindery for many years and retired to care for her father. Later in life, Maria lived with her daugther, Robin in New York City and Los Angeles before her final move to Chapel Hill, NC in 2018.

Maria is survived by three generations of family, her son Albert Lauritano of Chapel Hill, NC, daughter-in-law Lynn, granddaughters Rhiannon and Shona and great grandsons Albert, Soren and Emmett, and her daugther Robin Goldblatt of Los Angeles, CA, son-in-law Stuart, grandchildren Salvatore, David and Katie and great granddaughter Sylvia.

Besides time spent with family, she enjoyed a good romance novel and just about any detective show and only regrets that she was never selected to serve on a jury. She also loved coffee and enjoyed a final cup on May 1 before passing peacefully and comfortably in her sleep the following morning. She will be fondly missed but remembered always.

During her time in NC, her family was grateful for the care she received from the staff at Brookdale Chapel Hill Assisted Living and her wonderful team of daily companions (Elise, Jennifer, Linda and Charisse) from Acorn Healthcare who never left her side.

Maria's ashes will be placed along with her husband's at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn once travel restrictions ease due to the pandemic which fortunately she only experienced from a distance.

While there will not be a service to celebrate her life, the family requests that, if so inclined, you donate to the charity of your choice, considering the plight of those deeply affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Lauritano family is under the care of Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill.
