Mebane, NC     -      Owen Lee Allison of 2170 S. Third St ext in Mebane passed away peacefully at home, December 14, 2020 , under hospice care.    Owen was 95, born May 30, 1925 in Hillsborough.   He always said he wanted to live to 100, like some of his relatives.  However, complications from Covid-19 robbed him of his hope.

A World War II Navy veteran, Owen retired from Western Electric/ATT in Burlington after 37 years of service.  Owen was a farmer at heart and was known for his gardening, landscaping and tomatoes. He loved to have “sidelines” such as a produce stand, or firewood sales. He and his wife, Mabel, owned and operated Cedar Hill farm in Efland, known for pick your own blueberries.  The farm is now the site of Gravelly Hill Middle School.

He enjoyed remembering many stories of growing up in Hillsborough. In later years, he participated in several presentations on Hillsborough history, especially West Hillsborough.  Throughout his life, he was an active and loyal member of Methodist churches in Hillsborough(Hillsborough UMC), Burlington(Grace UMC) and Efland(Efland UMC).  Owen was a generous, caring man who loved his family, his church especially the children, and his many  long time friends and their families.

He is survived by his daughter, Sally Ann, and her husband, William H. Bland, Jr. of Mebane, brother in law and sister in law, Branson and Carlene Cagle (Winston Salem) and sister in law, Becky Cagle (McLeansville) as well as many Allison and Cagle nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mabel C. Allison, his parents, Ben and Sallie Allison, and brothers Marion, Melvin(Steve), and Bernard Allison.  Much could be written about his many adventures, even though he stayed close to home.  He will be missed by so many.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Donations to honor Owen may be made to The Exchange Club Family Center of the Central Piedmont, 200 N. Main Street, Graham, NC 27253 or Efland UMC, c/o 422 Patriot’s Pointe Dr, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
