Obituary of Horace Lee Ward

Horace Lee Ward, 94, passed away at home on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Lennie Frank and Maude Durham Ward and sister, Jessie Ward Cheek.
A lifetime resident of the White Cross Community and member of Antioch Baptist Church, Horace was a WWII Veteran that served in the US Army. Many happy years were spent working hard farming and raising tobacco. He also worked as a builder and cabinet maker. He enjoyed making porch swings that many family and friends will continue to remember him by. There were also lots of fun times enjoying square dancing, RV camping, tractor pulling, restoring tractors and his vintage 1931 Chevrolet. He loved going to car shows and chauffeuring bride and grooms on their special day.
Horace enjoyed life and spending time with his family and many friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Thelma Adams Ward, and two children; Victoria Ward Walker and Terry Lee Ward (Dana); four grandchildren Adam Bradley Walker (Andrea), Maggie Walker Gaster (TJ), Molly Blair Ward, and Shelby Lynne Ward; seven great grandchildren, Landon, Payton, and Austin Walker, Blake and Kinley Gaster, and Grayson and Gavin Hill; his sister Bernice Ward Huff, and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown to them during this time of loss.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at 2:00 pm at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, officiating will be Rev. David Atwater. Masks will be required and social distancing encouraged. Pallbearers will be Michael Bowden, Jamie Cheek, T. J. Gaster, Greg Huff, Perry Light and Adam Walker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brack Bowden, Vernon Davis, and Larry Sturdivant.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that Horace be honored through memorials to Antioch Baptist Church, 1707 White Cross Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516.
