Lorraine E. Boyce
August 15, 1929 - December 9, 2012
Mrs. Lorraine Boyce left this world to be with God on December 9, 2012 at the beautiful
age of 83. She was a resident of Pittsboro NC, daughter of the late Gilbert and Lillian
Smith. Lorraine was preceeded in death by her husband, Irving L. Boyce.
Lorraine was born in Pound, WI and came from a very large family of 16 children. She
knew all about hard work and about the strong unit of family. And indeed, she was all about family from the very beginning, helping her mother to take care of her brothers and sisters and doing the necessary chores on the farm they owned.
Lorraine was an avid horsewoman from the time she was a little girl. Her first job was as a
babysitter and her payment was in the form of a horse named "Pat." That got her hooked. From then on she seemed to eat, sleep, and breathe horses. Lorraine created the Kelly Lake Riding Academy in Wisconsin at the age of 17. Thus a life filled with horses had begun. She continued to ride well into her 60's.
Lorraine deeply loved her children. She is survived by sons Irving Jr.(Denita) of TN, David ( Cheri) of Pittsboro, Brian (Michele) of Durham and a daughter Terry of CA. She has four beautiful grandchildren Joshua, Daniel, Christopher, and Jennifer and a great-grand-daughter Caroline.
There will be a visitation Thursday, December 13 from 7pm-9pm at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill NC. Her memorial service will be Friday December 14 in the Chapel of Walker's Funeral Home at 11am, immediately followed by internment at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
Walker's Funeral Home of Chapel Hill is assisting the Boyce family. Online condolences can be sent to www.walkersfuneralservice.com.
