Obituary of Helen Davis

Helen Gates Berry Davis, age 94, passed away on Sunday, March 21, 2021.  Helen was born on July 20, 1926 to the late W.P.  Gates and Josephine Parker Gates.  She lovingly raised her five children and was devoted to her church.  Cooking for her family and friends was her witness and ministry.  She enjoyed reading good books and her devotions.  To the amazement of all who knew her, she had a photographic memory of all the dates, times, places and special events in her life.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronald Berry and his wife Joan, Steven Berry and his wife Debbie; two stepsons, Wayne Davis and his wife Sylvia, Grant Davis and his wife Linda; daughter-in-law Cheryl Davis; five grandchildren, Cherie Brown and her husband Scott III, Bart Davis, Kristin Davis, Michael Davis, Kevin Berry; and three great grandchildren, Scotty Brown IV, Stuart Brown and Taylor Brown.  In addition to her parents and husbands (Marshal Patain Berry and Frank J. Davis), Helen was preceeded in death by her siblings, Harry Gates, Rufus Gates, Frank Gates, Vernon Gates, Annie Lou Gates Austin, Selma Gates Jones, Lillian Gates Ligon; and  stepson Ken Davis. 

A graveside service will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Hillsborough Town Cemetery and will be officiated by Rev. David Morton and Rev David Smith.  Anyone who would like to see Mrs. Davis before the service can come by Walker’s Funeral Home in Hillsborough at any time before the service on Wednesday. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Hillsborough General Fund.
