Obituary of Louise "Tink" Fisher

Fisher, Louise Godwin “Tinkerbell”, age 77, formerly of Hillsborough, NC passed away peacefully August 16, 2021 in her home after a brief illness.  Tink was a graduate of Durham High School in 1962.  Tink’s life work was in the insurance industry.  She began her career at Home Security Insurance Company before finishing out her insurance career with Investors Consolidated Insurance Company. After serving in many capacities during her career, Tink finished her work by acting as the liaison to transition Investors Consolidated Insurance Company under the ownership of United Health Care.  While her primary vocation was insurance, Tink is by far best known for her work at the Village Diner in Hillsborough, NC.  She was far more than a waitress at the Diner.  She provided comic relief, acted as a surrogate grandma for child diners and cared for patrons during difficult periods of life.  She became part of the patrons lives and they became part of hers.

Tink will be remembered for her playful, joyful, mischievous spirit.  She was compassionate and generous but stubborn, feisty and tough. She was a champion of the marginalized and outcast.  She loved children, the elderly and animals (particularly birds).

Tink was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Michael Fisher, her parents Carson and Gladys Godwin, her brothers Corbett Godwin and Bruce Godwin, her sisters Peggy Stansbury and Katherine Stephenson.  She is survived by her son, Carl Johnson and his wife Shelley and their two children, Kaylee and Caleb, her niece Teresa Pelfrey, her sister Patsy Tilley, her stepdaughters Tammy Header, Angela Reagan,Michelle Paige Fisher, Christy Fisher, and Jennie Pearce, her stepson Michael Fisher Jr, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren and a large Village Diner family.

A memorial service for Tink led by Reverend Carl Johnson and Reverend Jonathan Stutts will be held Thursday, August 19, 2021 at 2pm at Walker’s Funeral Home located at 204. N Churton Street, Hillsborough, NC, 27278. 

The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation for the excellent nursing care Tink received during her 29 days at Wesley Long Hospital over her three stays.  The nurses were skillful, compassionate and joyful in their care of Tink.  Likewise, the family would like to thank AuthoraCare Palliative Care and Hospice and Faye McKnight of Griswold Home Care for compassionately caring for Tink and supporting the family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to put out a bird feeder or hummingbird feeder so Tink’s birds don’t go hungry.

Services will  be livestreamed for those not able to attend.
