Obituary of Lanie Hare Quade

Lanie Hare Quade, 56, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on December 12, 2021.  She was born April 17, 1965, in Harrisonburg Virginia to Weston A. and Jane Heishman Hare.

Lanie’s family moved to Chapel Hill in 1969, where she enjoyed playing with the kids in her neighborhood and following the Carolina Tarheels.  She graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 1983, and then attended UNC at Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Tarheel Marching Band.  The highlight of Lanie’s time in the band was playing at the Hula Bowl in Hawaii.  She graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science.  After working for a few years, she returned to UNC to earn a degree in nursing in 1991, which became her career.

In 1993, Lanie ran into a former high school boyfriend, Christopher Quade, while celebrating the Tarheel National Championship on Franklin Street.  They married in 1994.

Lanie was a dedicated nurse, spending most of her career in pediatric care both in the hospital and in clinical settings.  She was currently employed at Chapel Hill Pediatrics.  Her love of family and children led her to be a dedicated and loving wife and mother.  Lanie enjoyed her family’s many interests: traveling, camping, sports and dance.  She took the lead in establishing the Power Packs program at New Hope Elementary School where her children attended.  The Power Packs program provides weekend hunger relief for children in need.  She also was an active member of New Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and chaired/served on the Mission and Nominating committees.  She was upheld by her strong faith in God.

Lanie nurtured and enjoyed the relationships she made with many childhood friends throughout her life.  She loved her family deeply - aunts and uncles, cousins and friends - and shared many happy experiences with all of them.

Lanie is survived by her husband, children Zuling Frances Quade (junior at the University of Pittsburgh), ShiLi Alana Quade (freshman at Bridgewater College in VA), and YaMin Christopher Quade (junior at Cedar Ridge High School).  She is also survived by her parents, her siblings Wes Hare (Anne) of Raleigh, NC, Ken Hare (Yolanda) of Temple, TX, and many loving nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church on Saturday, December 18 at 11:00 AM.  The service will be available for live online viewing by clicking the "Live Stream Memorial Services" tab on the left of the obituary.
