I coached with and against Rick for about seven years at the Orange Rec. Dept. Rick always wanted to be a mentor to his players and he really cared about his players on and off the court! We had many conversations about games and players over the years and I value the time we spent together and on the phone after games even when we coached against each other! Rick won several championships, but the most important thing I saw was the influence he had on these young men and women. He spent a lot of time with these players before and after games and many times the discussions were about more than just the game strategy or results. It was about life and doing the right thing. I had a lot of respect for Rick's Christian values and he was a valuable asset to our community. Gonna miss you Rick!

Basketball brought us together, first as competitors then as brothers. Our last game against each other was a classic in our eyes. His team won in overtime and after a hard fought back and forth game, we met at halfcourt shook hands, hugged and said "I love you brother" to each other. Rick touched so many kids through basketball, however he was more than that. He's first priority was Lynn, Jeremy, Travis and Chelsea. Their beach trips, weekend get aways, were so special to him and when he would tell me about them he would light up. He is someone that I hold a special place in my heart for. There will ONLY be 1 Rick Johnson! I will always carry a little bit of him into every game I coach. Love you Brother!! Rob
