So proud of my son Joey. He gave his life serving others in need. Know he is receiving his reward in Heaven. He surely is so close to our Savior.

I am sending my deepest sympathy to the family. I have worked with Joey for 11 years. It hurts my heart to know I lost my best friend. He was my brother and my kids call him Uncle Joey and my grand kids. I will truly miss this man in my life. He has watch me cry and been right there by my side as I was by his side. We have laughed and had our good times I will forever miss all of it.

The world is a better place with Joey having been in it. I thank God for the opportunity to have known and loved him. Those big brown eyes were filled with love, compassion and oh yes "mischievousness". I have many wonderful memories of Joey and his brothers that will last a lifetime.
Love always,
Aunt Dale and Uncle Don

Joe was a dedicated volunteer donating over 40,000 hours of service and ensuring that he had a positive effect on every person he came in contact with. I was always amazed that no matter what he was dealing with personally, he had time for you. His smile was infectious. There was nothing he would not try to do to help. He touched many lives in a positive way, especially those who had challenges to overcome. He will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Joey.

Words can’t do justice when remembering Joey. He was an old gentle soul that had a heart that was loving and always forgiving no matter the incident or the past. He was very reserved but you knew by looking into his big brown eyes,“Everything going to be ok and all is forgiven”.
Joey was able to make a life for himself after a devastating accident 44 years ago when he was a young teenager. This left him a quadriplegic bound to a wheelchair. He handled a life full of difficult situations, complications, illnesses but never wanted to be treated differently. Nothing stopped his strong conviction to do something with his life. Joey was so determined that he earned a Degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. The life that he was given was to help others. He volunteered for decades at UNC Memorial Hospital-Chapel Hill in various roles helping thousands of people.
Joey and I were cousins with a special bond because we were born only 4 weeks apart. We grew up close during our childhood with wonderful unforgettable memories. Even if it had been a long time since seeing him it was as if no time had passed.
Joey, I love you and you will always have a special place in my heart.
Love always, Selena
