We went to Lakeview School , Birmingham, from 1st to probably 5th grade, Stanley was always in my class, never knew he had the name David, though...he kind of had a girlfriend, Laura Parrish. I spent many long summer days walking all over Birmingham with Stan, he had a kind of reckless sense of humor. Funny, though. We joked about his dads' Ford Falcon work car, and I remember riding in the family blue Impala convertible, with Candy driving, and hearing "something tells me I'm into something good" sung by the original, Earljean,(better than Herman's Hermits).
It does not surprise me that Stan went into long distance running, because we went out in the morning walking or taking a bus and did not come home until 6 or 7 pm.
A truly mysterious event happened, I went to visit my sister Mardi and her husband Blaine in Chapel Hill in 1969 approx. to stay for a week or so, (age 16?)and I was at a mall and I ran into Marcia, with son, amazingly. We both had older siblings in grad school there. More amazing than that, Stanley was staying for a visit with them at the same time I was there! So , I went to his brother's house in Marcia's VW van and stayed over . I was from Illinois and Stan from New Orleans at the time. Talk about "synchronicity".
I would like to say to people, you might want to look up friends,it did not even occur to me to look up Stan, if I did earlier, I would have liked to go out to Chapel Hill to see him. I was running a check on old friends and found Stanley, but only after he was gone. Of all the places I have seen in the US I think Chapel Hill NC is one of my favorite.
I'm kind of shook up because I remember how kooky and humorous Stan was, and all the crazy things we did as kids, but he was always dependable as a friend and never mean or unkind. I liked all his family, and at least I am able now to pay my respects to him and his kin and friends.

I was probably 17 (which made Stan about 12 ) and one day I was driving along a street in my neighborhood. I saw Stan walking along the street, and I stopped to give him a ride. He started walking across the street to the car and a little bird was hopping along behind him. He turned to the bird and in a crooning voice said "come on now." I was so surprised when I realized the bird was following, him and I said something to the effect that I didn't think the bird would come in the car. He gave it a little thought and said OK and turned back to the sidewalk with the bird still following him...
Another time, Stan and I were driving down St Charles Ave, and I stopped at a red light behind a school bus. All of a sudden, without a word, Stan jumped out of the car and ran to the back of the school bus. He had noticed the rear door ajar and jumped out to close it...which he did.
Christmas Eve, Stan was about 7 and Brooke was about 5. We were standing at my bedroom window, in the dark, looking up at the sky, with the hope of seeing Santa and his sleigh. Of course I knew the truth about Santa, but my little brother and sister were excited that we might see him. We didn't, but the anticipation was fun.

Stan adores his son, Devin. He lived his life always wanting to be close to his child. In recent years his trademark statement was always "I just want to be with Devin and Lynn". He died where he wanted to be - with Devin and Lynn. Our hope as a family is that Stan has found eternal peace.

Dear Lynn and Devin...words seem so inadequate to adequately express our sadness over the passing of Stan. He was a man of few words but he was truly proud of his family. We feel privileged to have known him and to have created some wonderful memories together. Stan will be greatly missed. Love to you both! - Julie and Steve
