Please share a memory of Vicki to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vicki Ann Rhew Compton passed away peacefully after a courageous fight with cancer on Sunday, August 19, 2012. Born November 19, 1946, she was the only daughter of the late Al Victor Rhew and late Mary Tilley Rhew of Rougemont. She spent her teen years being raised by her "granddaddy" the late James Cyrus Tilley. One of the great joys of her life has been her relationship with her younger brother, James Milton "Pete" Rhew. She has spent the majority of her life as a resident of Orange County. She attended Aycock School of Cedar Grove and graduated from Orange High School in 1965. The same year she married her high school sweetheart, Paul T Compton of Cedar Grove. Vicki worked as a dental assistant for over 40 years. She was deeply faithful to the Lord and to Cedar Grove United Methodist Church, especially the youth group which she led for nineteen years and became affectionately known as Miss Vicki and served as the president of the United Methodist Women for over 30 years. She dedicated much of her life to fundraising for the causes she believed in, including Cedar Grove UMC, Orange County Rescue Squad, Orange High School athletics and most recently Relay For Life. She had a passion for being a mother to Paula and "Gams" to her grandchildren, Will and Rhiley.
Vicki will be remembered for her larger than life presence, her loyalty, determination, dedication and passion, her abilities in the kitchen, especially chocolate chip cookies and her capacity to give unconditional love.
Vicki is survived by her husband, Paul Compton, her brother, James Milton "Pete" Rhew and wife Lou Anne, daughter, Paula Crabtree and husband Keith, grandchildren, Will Crabtree and Rhiley Crabtree, brother-in-law, Dwight Compton and wife, Betty, dear friends, Lawrence and Cornellia Talley, nephews, Dec Compton and wife Missy, Jeff Rhew and Bob Compton, and three great nephews and one great niece. She is also survived by her many friends, neighbors and the many "younguns" that she helped to raise during her lifetime.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 from 6pm-8pm at Cedar Grove United Methodist Church and the Funeral will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at 2pm at Cedar Grove United Methodist.
Thank you to everyone for the love, support, prayers, food, cards, prayer quilts, phone calls, prayer shawls and visits during her nine month battle with cancer. She was overwhelmed and thankful for the outpouring of love she felt from the people whose lives she had touched.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Miss Vicki to the Cedar Grove United Methodist Women and mailed to 1101 Carr Store Road Cedar Grove NC 27231.
