Obituary of Bessie Irene Heath Lloyd

Carrboro - Bessie Irene Heath Lloyd was born on July 24, 1938 in Pitt County, NC to John Heath and Annabelle Manning Heath. After an extended illness, it is with great sadness that we announce her passing on October 3, 2022 in her home with family. She married Willie Clay Lloyd, Jr. on April 4, 1958 and had 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy.  After driving a bus for the Town of Chapel Hill for 25 years, she retired to enjoy many years with her family and friends. She dedicated many years of her life to the Carrboro Church of God as a piano player. A loving kind-hearted Christian woman, she loved listening to the word of God daily. She loved to laugh and be around family.  

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Jimmy Ray Lloyd, son-in-law James Thacker, daughter-in-law Laverne Lloyd, sisters Emma Heath Tripp, Annabel Heath Grogan, Louise Heath O’Mary, Doris Heath Harrell, Agnes Heath Gates and three brothers James William Heath, Johnnie Lee Heath, James Wesley Heath.

She is survived by her children Janice Lloyd Sanders (Raeford), Frances Lloyd Thacker, Nancy Lloyd Ray, Tony David Lloyd; brothers Wilbert Heath and Vernon Fate Heath; grandchildren Chris Sanders, Ben Sanders, Jeremy Sanders, Chad Thacker, Jamie Thacker, Travis Ray, Corey Ray, Bryan Lloyd, Ashley Simmerman, April Small, sixteen great grandchildren and many friends and family who loved and adored her.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Hillsborough Church of God by the Rev. Dale Morgan. Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro. Visitation will be in the church from 7 pm to 9 pm Monday, October 17, 2022.

The family will be gathering at the home of Nancy Lloyd Ray.
