Obituary of Michael Randolph Hackley

Michael “Randy” Hackley died on Nov. 21, 2022 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill after a prolonged battle with kidney disease. He was 53.
Randy was born to Lloyd “Vic” and Brenda (Stewart) Hackley on Oct. 13, 1969 in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father was serving in the U.S. Air Force. The family lived in several locations before settling in Chapel Hill, where he spent the majority of his life.
Randy was a lifelong learner who graduated from Chapel Hill High School, received a bachelor’s in political science from N.C. Central University, a master’s degree in human resource management and a master’s in project management from Western Carolina University.
Randy had a passion for helping people and worked in several different capacities in human resources, career services and recruiting for several area companies and institutions.
Known for his generous spirit, deeply irreverent sense of humor, his intense loyalty to friends and his picky-eating habits, Randy lived life on his own terms and was deeply loved by many.
Randy is survived by his loving wife, Miranda “Mandy” Hackley; his three beloved children, Andrew, Devin and Charlotte “Charlie”; his father, Lloyd “Vic”, Hackley; his sister, Dina Hackley-Hunt, and her husband, Phillip Hunt; his niece and nephew, Anaiah and Daniel Hunt; along with many treasured friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda, and his grandmother, Mary “Lil’ Mama” Stewart.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. at Walker’s Funeral Home, 120 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. All are welcome to attend to celebrate his life.
