Obituary of George Edward Smith Jr.

George Edward Smith Jr, 76, of Graham passed away at UNC Hospice Home in Pittsboro on February 2, 2023. George was born October 15, 1946 at Duke Hospital.

George was a graduate of Orange High School, class of 1964. He joined the Air Force right out of High School. While in the Air Force he married Joyce Scarlett in 1967. During his service they lived in England for 2 years where he was a Communication Center Specialist. After the Military, George earned his Associate Degree in Business from Kings College. George spent his career in Sales, then once he retired from Sales, he worked as a Security Guard.

George was a die hard fan of the Washington Redskins, Carolina Tarheels and New York Yankees. He enjoyed playing Solitare and doing Word Search Puzzles.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Smith, 3 daughters: Angie Smith of Graham, Robbin Wilborn of Burlington, Kelly Jarvis of Windsor, 7 grandchildren: Dana Hinton, Nikki Smith, Miridian Newton (Zack Jennings), Justin Williamson, Emily Simmons (Jordon), Zoie Smith, Imani Smith, 3 great grandchildren: De'marion Graves, Tegan Jennings, Jordon Simmons, 1 sister: Jackie Roberts and 1 brother: Jerry Smith. 

George was preceded in death by 1 grandson: Edward Smith,1 brother: PeeWee Smith, 1 sister: Charlene Couch.

Visitation will be held at 12:00PM on Monday, February 6, 2023 at Walker's Funeral Home, 304 West Center Street, Mebane, NC followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Walker's Funeral Home Chapel in Mebane. Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Park.
