Joe was a dear friend to Mary and me. We met at West Point in 1972. He and I taught European history together for my three years there. He also taught a class on Comparative Religions, the first of its kind at West Point. Joe was loved by cadets. He also made great friends with some very brilliant members of the Departments of English, Social Sciences and elsewhere.
Joe's love of opera found a perfect outlet in the Met in New York City, a 50 mile drive away. To make these drives, he bought a used Ford Pinto. For comfort, Joe had the back seat removed and had the shop move the driver's seat as far back as possible and weld it to the floor. The drive was a whole lot easier that way!
After West Point, Mary and I tried to visit Joe every year on our way back from Florida. We also got to celebrate his 90th birthday, flying from Baltimore to enjoy a wonderful lunch at one of Joe's favorite Italian restaurants. Despite his ailments, Joe remained alive and engaged. He lived life to the fullest.
We miss him already, and are certain that his family and many friends in Chapel Hill do as well. He was a true joy in our lives.

We grieve with the family as we remember our good friend and neighbor of many years, Joe Beasley. His positive outlook on life, his always present smile and warm greeting always lifted out spirits. His was a life well lived; our lives are richer for having had many wonderful times together with him - and his family.

My memories are very much like John Parham's. I was the senior class president for the class of 83, and had lots of interaction with "Mr." Beasley. I received an appointment to the Naval Academy senior year which made us just a little bit closer. Joe Beasley was a great Christian, a great high school administrator, and a great active duty military officer. RIP.

Mr. Beasley was the Upper School Headmaster during my times at Ravenscroft. As Senior Class president, we had numerous interactions. I admired Mr. Beasley as a straight shooter and fair. I have a great memory of him accusing me of a certain act against a lower school teacher during exams that turned out to be another student using my name when called out.
Mr. Beasley allowed me to clear my name and move forward with my exams. Not so much for the other student using my name.
Rest in Peace Mr. Beasley and thanks for your leadership during my HS years. I treasure our conversation about the car in the middle of Senior Hall in 1984.
