Obituary of Nellie Merole Tunstall

Nellie Hines Tunstall passed away at Duke Regional Hospital on April 14th, 2023. She was 95 years old.

She was a resident of Hillsborough, NC, and retired from Liggett & Myers Tobacco Company after 40 years of service.

Nellie was the oldest child of the late Edgar Miller Hines and Sarah Borland Hines and her stepmom Hazel B. Hines. Preceded in death by her husband James Alton Tunstall. Brothers Edgar J Hines, Harold M Hines, and Charles David Hines. Sisters Mary Catherine Roberson, Shirley Brown, Sarah Jane Norton.

Survived by her sister Irene Laube (Elzie) and sister n law Norkie Hines, Son James “Jimmy” Edward Tunstall (Mary), Daughters Betty Marie Cates (Larry), Janice Tunstall Lusk. Grandchildren Sandy Laney (Stewart), Kile Lusk, Kasey Lusk, Katlin Lusk. Great Granddaughters Cates and Books.

The family would like to thank the care givers that spend days and nights with our mother. We couldn’t have done this without you!

Graveside service will be held at Mars Hill Baptist church in Hillsborough, NC on Monday April 17th , 2023, at 1:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mars Hill Baptish Church.
