Obituary of Shields Parham Jones

Shields Parham Jones of Hillsborough died peacefully on April 22, 2023.   She was born in Oxford, North Carolina on October 4, 1933 to Ola Wilkinson Parham and Shields Samuel Parham.  She never knew her father who died in an accident a month before her birth.  She graduated from Oxford High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1954 from Bluefield College in Bluefield, West Virginia.   Shields had a career as a Registered Nurse for over forty years retiring from the Durham Veterans Administration Hospital in 1998.   

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Stanley Jones in 2004 and by her four sisters.  She is survived by her much loved nieces and nephews.  

She enjoyed traveling and loved all animals, especially her dogs which were always a part of her life.  She quite often remarked that her friendly pampered dogs were her confidants and a cheerful comfort.  She had a deep love for her family especially her mother and in recent years was an excellent source for beloved family stories.  Throughout her life, she remained a determined independent and grateful woman.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held on April 30^th at 4:00 pm at the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.
