Obituary of Ricky Paul Overman

Ricky Paul Overman, 70, of Efland passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 3, 2023 at The Hock Family Pavilion in Durham after a short eight week battle with lung cancer. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Leon and Ramona Overman. Ricky retired from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Computer Repair Center in 2009 after 30 years of service. After retiring he went to work at Wilmore Electronics in Hillsborough. He loved watching all kinds of sports and enjoyed playing slo-pitch softball and golf. He loved to play golf at Cedar Grove Golf Course where he spent most of his weekends playing with his father, brother and many other family and friends. He was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan. Ricky’s smile would light up a room and his laugh was contagious. Since his passing many have described him as humble and laid back. “There wasn’t a mean bone in his body” and he never raised his voice. While at Duke Hospital and The Hock Family Pavilion he made it known to everyone that he was ready to meet Jesus and he couldn’t wait to see his mama. He always loved singing and in his final days you could hear him repeatedly singing “Oh How I Love Jesus!” He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Nancy Sykes Overman; his children: Tonja Overman Womble and husband, Jed of Durham, Brandi Overman Bullock and husband, Justin of Durham, and Ricky Paul Overman, Jr (RJ) of Efland; his grandsons: Jace and Kale Womble, and Hayes Bullock; a sister, Bunny Maples (husband, Eugene) of Hillsborough; a brother, Tim Overman (wife, Patty) of Hillsborough; three nephews, one niece, three great-nephews and two great-nieces, and many close family and friends. To honor Ricky’s wishes, in lieu of a funeral, the family will have a time of fellowship for all family and friends on Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 at Mars Hill Baptist Church in Hillsborough
