I joined OCASL sometime around 2016 and David has been a part of the teams I played with ever since that time. He was always one of the core players that consistently showed up and helped out with the team. The man had such a passion for the game - it was quite infectious on the field. As time went on players fell off and new players joined, but the ever-committed David, was a constant. He was a great friend that always stood up for his teammates no matter the occasion. His tenacity and spirit will be sorely missed but never forgotten.

I moved to Carrboro in 2011 with my wife and didn’t know a single other person. I joined ocasl a few months later and finally found my people. David was one of my first friends and helped me call North Carolina home. I loved playing soccer with him. Dependable, hard working, and skilled. I think our 6v6 team won ocasl’s first ever small sided tournament. Boooooy did we celebrate. I loved meeting him and our team at Tyler’s on Saturday nights. We spent a lot of time there, met a lot of funny people, and played a lot of foosball. Eventually, his daughter Emma (who is old now [to me at least]) came to my middle school and I got to be her grade level counselor. We even went to a wedding together (check that picture out). As soon as Emma came to Culbreth, I got to see David as a dad and we got to talk about his kid. How cool is that? My favorite memory might be playing croquet at a Memorial Day party. I was in miserable spirits because I had just torn my Achilles and showed up in a boot. David helped me forget all that and I hobbled around as we tried to launch everyone else’s croquet balls into the poison ivy. I’ll be remembering his kindness and spirit. He was so easy to connect with. I’ll miss my wife coming home and saying, “I saw David at work again and he says hi!” I’m going to miss you, buddy.
