Obituary of Alice Marie Stone

Alice Britt Stone, 82, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina died peacefully July 5, 2012, at home surrounded by her family. She was born March 5, 1930, in Lumberton, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Maris Carter and Lawrence Holmes Britt. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. On December 14, 1954, she married Cecil Stone, of Lumberton, NC. Alice was well known in her community as the owner of Aesthetic Hairstyling, the salon she opened on Franklin Street in 1957. A successful business woman for fifty years, she also owned Merle Norman Cosmetics, and opened a second location for Aesthetic Hairstyling in University Mall in 1973. She is survived by her husband, Cecil Stone, of Chapel Hill; daughters Sharon Dail (husband, Tony Dail) and Linda (BeBe) Casanta Roberts of Chapel Hill, son, Steve Stone (wife, Debbie Stone) of Ayden, NC; grandchildren, Keith Dail (wife, Janie Dail), Kimberly Wood (husband, Josh Wood), Erica Sanders (husband, Mark Sanders), Elizabeth Parrish (husband, Brian Parrish), Eric Stone, and Tammy Upchurch (husband, Chris Upchurch); Great-Grandchildren Kaitlin Dail, Tanner Dail, Jonah Wood, Jackson Wood, Jake Wood, Kinley Sanders, and Thomas Upchurch; and Mother-In-Law Sadie Stone of Lumberton, NC. Alice was preceded in death by her son, Carl Stone; her son-in-law, Tommy Roberts; and her siblings. Visitation will be held at Walker's Funeral Home in Chapel Hill on Monday, July 9 from 7:00-9:00. Funeral Services will be held at Walker's Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 10 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to UNC Hospice.
