My name is Sindy. I was bar tending in the late 80’s in a small town in Lastrup, Minnesota. One day in walks this very tall North Carolinian with an awesome accent. Bill was in the area visiting Elaine’s Mom and family. The name of this bar at the time was “Farmer’s Bar”. That name alone lured Bill in for a glass of beer. We get to talking of many things. When my shift was over, I mentioned I was headed home to milk my Dad’s cows. A couple of nights later as I was milking, a very big red Cadillac pulls up to the barn and in walks Bill, wearing his kaki pants, white shoes and a red cap. Didn’t bother him that he was dressed to the nines and visiting my family and 30 cows in a barn. Much later we learned that we were small time farmers compared to Bill. We had many visits in North Carolina and Minnesota with Bill and Elaine. Bill and I had many conversations over the phone about crops in the field and the weather of course. He was very generous. On one visit, my younger sister was getting married later that year. Bill takes off his leg and pulls out a $100.00 bill as a wedding present. She used it for her marriage license. Ken, I and my family have many good memories of Bill.
