Obituary of Aaron Gustavia Gordon

Aaron Gustavia Taylor Gordon (age 91), passed peacefully at Alamance Regional Hospital on Thursday August 10, 2023, at 9:47pm from respiratory distress. She was a resident of 1813 Dimmocks Mill Road in Hillsborough but was recently a patient at Compass Health Care and Rehab Hawfields Nursing Home in Mebane. Aaron, who was affectionately known as Nanny, Tavia, Tavy, and Aunt Tavy, was born in Carrboro as one of eight children to Olin Spencer Taylor and Emma Luvenia Maynor Taylor. “Tavy” attended Chapel Hill High School and married Lawrence Albert Gordon of Old NC 86 in Hillsborough NC on September 3^rd, 1949. She later retired from Orange County Schools Cafeteria.

Lawrence and Tavy had two children: Linda Gail Gordon and Bruce Edward Gordon. Together they had four grandchildren: Jeffrey Lamar Hicks, Jamie Lorin Hicks, Mandy Ann Gordon Wagner (husband: Luke Wagner), and Chelsea Michelle Lane; three great-grandchildren: Abby Loren Hicks, Mackenzie Ray Dobson, and Willow Grace Hicks. Tavy was a devoted wife, mother, nanny, aunt, and friend to all. She was a die-hard Carolina Basketball fan and an avid fisherman. She was known as a wonderful cook that welcomed all into her home. She was very passionate about gardening and had a true love for her flowers.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, and her husband Lawrence Albert Gordon of 67 years, along with many loving friends and family. Tavy is survived by a lone sister-in-law: Virginia “Bunchy” Coburn Taylor of Hillsborough. Tavy was a lifelong member of Union Grove United Methodist Church where she will be laid to rest along side her husband (Papa). The family will be receiving visitors at Walkers Funeral Home in Hillsborough NC on Saturday August 12^th, 2023, from 6-8pm. All are welcome to attend a short service conducted by Reverand Richard O. Greenway at Union Grove United Methodist Church on Sunday August 13^th, 2023, at 2pm inside the church followed by a brief graveside prayer.

While Tavy was a patient at Compass, she routinely received fresh flowers from “Heart Blooms” Community Outreach at The Lamb’s Chapel in Burlington NC which brought joy to her heart and put a smile on her face.
