Obituary of Ruth Sparrow

     Ruth Sparrow, age 85, of Chapel Hill passed away peacefully at her home with her family after a long history of medical illnesses.

     Ruth was born in Danville, Va. January 12, 1938 and lived in Greensboro, NC where she met her husband June and they resided in Chapel Hill together for 64 years. Ruth was a lifelong housewife, mother, grandmother “Gran” and Great Gran. She took care of everyone in her family from her in-laws, children, grandchildren and her husband June. Ruth worked at the Village Advocate Newspaper for years and also made Christmas wreaths with the Honeycutts for many seasons. Ruth was a hard worker, whether it was at home or on the job. She found great joy working outside the home. For many years she was a member of the Spa in Chapel Hill where she worked out and walked many miles with her friend Melda. 

     Ruth is survived by her husband June A. Sparrow, Her oldest daughter Sandra Sparrow Barefoot and her husband Tim of Wilmington, NC, her son Andy A. Sparrow and his wife Sharon of Chapel Hill NC, her daughter Sarah C. Loftin and John of Mebane, NC, and her Daughter in Law Tara Wertz Sparrow of Chapel Hill. Ruth and June have seven grandchildren: Josh Coburn and his wife Rosie of Graham, NC, Jeff Coburn and his wife Amber of Burlington, NC, Taylor Barefoot and his wife Jessa of Wilmington NC, Austin Barefoot of Wilmington, NC, Max Sparrow of Chapel Hill, NC, Alissa Dunn and Levi Sparrow of Chapel Hill, NC. Ruth and June also have five great grandchildren: Charlie Grace, Judah, Walker, Jett, Daniel and a little girl expected in December. Ruth was predeceased by her parents John and Bessy Russell of Danville Va., six sisters and a brother all of Daville, Va., her in-laws Waldo and Inez Sparrow of Chapel Hill and her youngest son Joseph “Jay” Sparrow of Chapel Hill.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Mount Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in Chapel Hill, NC.
