Elizabeth Cox Bonus-Blankenship
April 10, 1961 to September 12, 2023
Elizabeth Bonus-Blankenship passed away on Tuesday, September 12. She was a resident of Durham, NC. Elizabeth was born in Rochester, New York and spent her youth in Chelsea, Michigan where her most wonderful memories were of lovely days spent with her family while living on South Lake, in Grass Lake, Michigan. She later lived in Bloomington, Indiana and graduated from Bloomington North High School. After high school she attended Indiana University.
Elizabeth was a long-time employee of Blue Cross Blue Shield NC and then went on to obtain a Real Estate Broker’s license. She was employed at Durham Technical Community College as an adjunct instructor and most recently at Orange County Department of Aging as a career coach. Throughout the years Elizabeth helped during elections with Durham County Board of Elections and took special pride in her involvement with that organization as well as with the US Census Bureau.
Elizabeth married James Finley Blankenship, Jr. and theirs was a happy and loving union cut short by his death in February, 2014. She was predeceased by her parents Thaddeus M. Bonus and Candace Cox Bonus.
Left to miss “Liz” are her siblings Ellen Bonus (Ernie Hood), Emily Long (Bryan Baylor) and Andrew Bonus (AnnaMarie). Liz adored her niece and nephews Lily Zeigler, Ben Zeigler, Henry Schroeder, Emerson Baylor, Jeffery Bonus and James Bonus as well as her grandnephew Malik Mouabid, her cousins and her sister-in-law Sandra Bonus. Liz will especially be deeply missed by her long-time friend Linda Miles. She will also be mourned by her late husband Jim’s family.
We will fondly remember our dear sister!
