His regular routine included going to auctions weekly and working in the store with his brother Tommy. Auctions were both business and pleasure since had friends wherever he wentand they knew him by his second nickname “Chapel Hill”. Anyone that entered the store not only could find an interesting treasure but they would also get to hear fascinating stories that included local historical information or childhood adventures with his brother Greg and their friends growing up in Carrboro.
Richard was also especially fond of animals. He found and rescued numerous dogs and cats over the years and even wild animals found shelter near him.
Family gatherings were also very enjoyable with Richard. His stories, play time, and conversations were always entertainingand full of surprises. We called him our gentle giant; he never knew a stranger and was always generous. Richard had a strong faith in Jesus and he will be missed until we see him again in heaven.
The family will have visitation on Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 1-2 at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill followed by a graveside service beginning at 2:30 at Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro. All are invited who are able to attend.
