Obituary of Teresa M. Siegemund

Teresa M Burke Siegemund (née Burke) of Chapel Hill, NC, passed away after a long illness on December 6, 2023. She was 65 years old.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Teresa attended the University of Pennsylvania to study Literature and Germanic Languages. After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree, she transferred to the University of Tübingen, Germany, on a Fulbright scholarship.

In Tübingen, she met her future husband, Volkmar. They decided to stay in Germany beyond the end of Teresa’s scholarship and to start a family there. In 1992, they relocated to the United States of America and settled down in the Piedmont of North Carolina where Teresa spent the second half of her life. Teresa worked for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for several years before focusing on raising and educating her children.

Teresa loved music and was an accomplished violinist in her younger years. Before her illness slowed her down, she also enjoyed hiking and exploring the natural areas around her home.

Teresa’s immediate family said farewell to her in a private ceremony. No funeral services will be held. The family asks not to send any flowers.
