We would like to share with Henry’s family and friends a couple of pictures, one taken while Henry and Linda stayed with us in 2017 at our place in Northern Burgundy near Chablis and the other in 2019 when we stayed at their shared apartment in Saint Martin’s, i.e. close to France, but on the other side of the Atlantic! We were amazed by Henry’s resilience during his battles with cancer and Parkinson’s disease. Although he suffered a great deal of pain and hardship, he was able to connect with people and remained enthusiastically interested in a wide range of world issues. The fact that during his retirement years he deepened his knowledge of the French language and culture is a perfect illustration of this.
We convey our heartfelt sympathies to Linda and family.

As US Peace Corps Volunteers, Henry and I shared a house in Tetouan, Morocco with Yutaka Kakimoto, a Japan Peace Corps Volunteer. Tetouan is an ancient, polyglot, multi-cultural city at the foot of the Rif Mountains. The three of us enjoyed sharing our experience. Henry was observant, thoughtful, and curious about other cultures. He had a sly and gentle wit and was well-read, caring and highly ethical. He became a highly valued friend. I will miss him. I am so sorry to hear of Henry's death. I enjoyed befriending him over 10 years ago when we were advocating for Parkinson's Disease by participating in Panel Discussions on the topic of "living life to the fullest with Parkinson's". I'll never forget that he ended the session with a poem. The poems were always meaningful and appropriate to our discussion My condolences to his family and friends.
Sincerely, Dave Malarkey

Having worked with Henry for decades at EPA, there are so many memories – I worked with him most closely on the air standards for sulfur dioxide – where he demonstrated leadership and management with both contractors and staff. He also played a major role in our retreats that eventually led to a reorganization of the office. During some of the battles in the 80’s, he came up with an apt phrase of what we faced “make nothing happen.” He ended up as leader in the Office of the Director. The picture here recalls him demonstrating multiple talents at my retirement in 2007 – this included his classic delivery of a roast shown,, but also a lesser known ability to singing “the end of the line” along with Jeff Clark and Bob Kellam. I’ll remember that smile of a remarkable man.
