Sending my condolences to Mrs. Vera, April, Jeff and Brent! I’m saddened to hear about the loss of your husband and dad! I stayed at your home many nights with With y’all and was treated more like family than just a friend. I was told today by my sister that Thomas transitioned to heaven. I would’ve 100% been there and will reach out to you in the near future! Thomas was a mentor, coach, friend and just like a dad to me. I am crushed! Just know that life doesn’t end when you die! Life ends when you give up! Keep your head up and cherish the fact that you had an awesome husband and dad that was a major impact on our community and beyond! Love will conquer death!

To Mrs. Stephens, April, Jeff, and Brent,
I want all of you to know that my thoughts and prayers are with you. Your Dad and Mom were so very sweet, caring and giving to me during our fun teenage years together. He truly was the best baseball coach I ever had! He knew the game so well, coached with so much passion and understanding, and was loved by all of his players. Brent and I had so many great memories together on the "Mangum Cleaners" baseball team and being friends. I can still see your Dad now coaching from 3rd base and grabbing his belt for the bunt signal:) I will be thinking about all of you.
Love, Russell Westbrook

This is a picture of Thomas with Howard Lunsford and Billy Reynolds on the 18th Tee at Pebble Beach. They were lifetime friends and enjoyed traveling together.
Thomas was a great man and friend to everyone he met. He quietly helped many people through out his life.
The entire Reynolds family are blessed to have shared some wonderful times with Thomas and Vera!
Our Prayers are with you all!

Tommy and his Mebane store were a large part of my childhood. For many years, I was only allowed to ride my bike as far away as his store, and it was there that a loaf of bread, lunch meat, hot dogs, buns, milk, or soft drinks were our go-to fast food meals when cooking would take too long. He was always friendly and a big supporter of Mebane youth sports. I still remember us winning the 1975 little league title game with Tommy's Mini Mart our team sponsor. We took photos of the team afterwards with Tommy and the championship trophy. He frequently treated the team with goodies from his store after big wins. It was at Tommy's that I started my long obsession with collecting baseball cards. I would scour the roadsides on the north side of town to recover empty soft drink bottles and eagerly took them to Tommy's to exchange them for packs of baseball cards. What a delight it was transforming my hard work into the thrill of opening those packs and wondering which players were inside.
When I started high school, Tommy's was our hangout spot, and we purchased lots of snickers bars and Mountain Dew there before rushing back to campus for after school band and sports. On numerous occasions I witnessed Tommy's generosity as he covered the bill for a loyal patron who urgently needed something for their family and was short on cash. Tommy made Mebane a special place for all of us, and he leaves us so many wonderful memories of special times with special friends. God blessed us with Tommy, as I hope God will continue to bless and comfort the family.
Love,
Yonnie Butler
