Obituary of Keith Lewis

Keith Bullard Lewis, 97, was born on April 26, 1927, in Bladen County, NC to William Madison Lewis and Nettie Estelle Marshburn Lewis. He was married to Doris Lee Minnis Lewis for 69 years prior to her death in 2018. 

He graduated from Garland High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 12, 1945.  He retired from the Chapel Hill Post Office, and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers for over sixty years. He and his wife farmed for many years and were vendors at the Carrboro Farmers Market.  He was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church. 

In addition to his wife and parents, he is predeceased by his siblings Vera Lewis, Madison Lewis, Frances Lewis Hubbard, Elwyn Lewis, Betty Lewis Eason, Miriam Lewis Cody; and nephews Charles Lewis and Bill Lewis. 

Surviving are his daughters Martha Lewis Stanfield and husband Earl, of Chatham, Virginia, and Rebecca Lewis Lawrence and husband, Dan, of Roxboro; grandsons Dan Lawrence, Jr. of Roxboro, and Landon Stanfield, and wife, Samantha of Chatham, Va., great grandchildren Samuel Lawrence, Maggie Lawrence and Mac Stanfield. Close family includes his nieces and nephews, David and Charlotte Lewis, John Hubbard, Libby Lewis, Anne Hubbard, Bob Lewis, Barbara Penland, Helen Chandler, L.F. Eason, Jim Cody, Susan Hubbard-Reeves, Sarah Coleman, Linda Cody, sister in law Betty Sue Minnis, and brother in law Lou Cody.

A celebration of life with military honors will be held at 4:00 p.m on Sunday, June 23 at Union Grove United Methodist Church at 6407 Union Grove Church Road, Hillsborough, NC. Visitation with the family will be after the service.

Pallbearers are Dan Lawrence and Landon Stanfield. Honorary pallbearers are Harry Sumner, Jonathan Ray, Mike Kirk, Zack Dodson, David Lewis, and Steven Lewis.
