Ema was the first psychotherapist I was introduced to when I moved to Chapel Hill. She was warm, welcoming, and a great resource for me about the ins and outs of the profession. We became good friends and over the years shared many meals, attended many conferences together and shared a psychoanalytic sensibility at a time when N.C. psychiatric academia was fond of dx like “pica” and “multiple personality disorder” which I had not heard of at Cornell’s Payne Whitney psychiatric Clinic. We lost touch in recent years but I thought of her often.
