Joseph Earl Allison, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on July 5, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born on January 21, 1936, in Hillsborough, NC, to Elizabeth Meredith and Roy Coleman Allison, and was one of seven siblings.
Earl graduated from Hillsborough High School and went on to dedicate his life to public service. He served with distinction in the Chapel Hill Police Department for 30 years, followed by 11 years as an Orange County Magistrate, where he touched countless lives with his commitment to justice and integrity. In his youth, Earl's heart was captured by a "cheerleader" named Betty Crabtree. Their love story began when he finally gathered the courage to ask her to his brother's birthday party in 10th grade. They married on June 13, 1954, and recently celebrated an inspiring 70 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring bond and love.
Earl was a devoted family man, survived by his three children: Debra Allison Drum (Jack), Tami Allison Weaver (Gary), and Tracy Meredith Allison (Kim). He was a cherished grandfather to Phillip Drum (Allison), Jenna Allison Weaver McKeel (Will), Matthew Clifford Weaver (Breton), Meredith Danielle Allison, Garrison Coleman Weaver (Victoria), Traclynne Allison Perkins (Vic), Kelsey Emerson Carpenter, and adored great-grandfather to Madison Paige Drum, Cameron Vance Hunt, Peyton Allison McKeel, Paige Taylor McKeel, Charlotte Renee Weaver, Graves Clifford Weaver, and Joseph Garrison Weaver.
He found great joy in cheering on UNC Football, spending time at the beach, and was a proud member of Amity United Methodist Church, where his faith was a cornerstone of his life.
Joseph Earl Allison will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family and community, and his unwavering faith. His legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
To celebrate his life and legacy, a service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Amity United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM, prior to the service.
