Michael Watson “Mike” Dawes passed away on 8.05.2024. Mike was kind and very generous with his time, offering his help to all those who needed him. He deeply loved his family and his many friends, and he enjoyed the easy connection he had with all of them. Mike’s son Griffin was his special delight. All who knew Mike loved him and will miss him dearly.
At the time of his death, Mike was living in Carrboro, NC. A native of North Myrtle Beach, Mike graduated from North Myrtle Beach High School. In 1978 he received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina. For the majority of his professional career, he was employed by the SC Department of Revenue where he made lifelong friends. Mike loved fishing in the waterways of North and South Carolina and was always ready for a golf game with friends and family. Mike thoroughly enjoyed biking wherever and whenever he could.
Mike was predeceased by his mother, Helen Mallonee Dawes, and his father, Stonewall Watson Dawes. In addition to his son, he is survived by his sisters, Leslie Dawes and Patty Quattlebaum (Bill), his brother, Brian Dawes, his nieces Sarah Quattlebaum (Cassidy Henehan) and Megan Quattlebaum (Ben Klein), his great-nephews Leo and Zevie Klein, and his beloved aunt, Pat Murphy, as well as many cousins. Mike had an especially close relationship with his former wife and Griffin’s mother, Melanie Dawes.
A memorial service honoring Mike’s life will be held in the Mausoleum Chapel at Twin City Cemetery in Loris, SC on 9.1.2024 at 2 pm.
