Obituary of Kenneth Mitchell Harris
Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Mitchell Harris, “Mitch” (68) unexpectedly passed away September 6, 2024 in Mebane, North Carolina.
Mitch was born on September 11, 1955 in Washington, D.C. to Edward Mitchell Harris and Mary “Mickey” Louise Harris. He married Tracey McCorkle Harris on April 2, 1983 in Durham, NC. They had two children, Brandon “Tyler” and Rachel Kendall. He retired from Kroger in 2017 after more than 40 years as a Clerk and well-respected Shop Steward.
Mitch is preceded in death by his father, Edward Harris, and his brother, Bryan “Jeff” Harris.
Mitch will be greatly missed and is survived by his wife, Tracey, son, Tyler (m. Chelsea), daughter, Rachel, his sister, Carolyn “Yvonne” Ligon, and his mother, Mickey Harris. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend our sincerest appreciation to Nathan Coe, Kellie Murphy, and the unnamed nurse/patron who rushed to assist Mitch in his final moments; to Alamance County EMS, Mebane Fire Department, and the Mebane Police Department for all life-saving efforts made on his behalf and support to us during that time; and lastly, our sincerest appreciation is extended to all of the local shop owners and their staff in Mebane, our family and friends, and Walker’s Funeral Home for the abundance of support provided to our family during this loss.
To know Mitch was to know his unconditional love for his family, passion for Duke Athletics, his unmatched work ethic, and his desire to bring family and friends together for any occasion. He most enjoyed the period of life after retirement, when he and Tracey moved to Mebane so that they could watch their precious grandchildren grow up. Mitch, whom his grandchildren affectionately called “Pop-Pop,” was there for almost every recital, school celebration, tournament, and sports event. He found joy in his family time, watching sports, and what he called “the smalltown life” with morning coffee and daily walks in downtown Mebane, cornhole and grilling by the pool, and local darts tournaments. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him, by those who called him a coworker, a true friend, Son, Pop-Pop, Dad.
We love you.
