Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Alice Marguerite Van Fleet passed peacefully in her sleep on October 10, 2024; she was 89. Born in Washington Mills, NY, Alice lived in Stanhope NJ for most of her life -- raising a family, working, and worshiping.  She moved to Chapel Hill, NC to stay close to her children.  She struggled through the last four years of her life after a diagnosis of Alzheimers, with its disabling effects.

How can we sum up a life in a few words? She was a sister, wife and mother, grandmother, nurse, EMS, educator, and spiritual mentor.  She served as a deacon in the First Presbyterian Church in Stanhope, NJ, and served as a Steven’s Minister at Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, NC. She was a compassionate and caring person, a great Mom and a best friend!  She was an RN, school nurse, and earned her Master’s degree-plus in education. As an educator she taught a curriculum on “health and family life, death and dying” at Lenape Valley Regional High School retiring in 1996.  Alice spent many years responding to emergencies and saving lives with the Stanhope-Netcong American Legion Ambulance Corp, and was an honorary Lifetime Member.

She is survived by her three younger sisters, Joyce Van Fleet of Lake Lackawanna, NJ, Nancy Waskowich of Bentonville, AR, and Glennda Depuy of Netcong, NJ; her four children James, Glenn, and John Van Fleet, and Lisa Sanfilippo; and her seven grandchildren Eric, Elizabeth, Ryan, Grace, Mae, Emily and Rin.
