Obituary of Charles Edward Thompson

HILLSBOROUGH - Charles Edward Thompson. Charles died on May 8, 2012 after a long hard battle with cancer. He was a Christian and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Pittsboro, where he served as a deacon. He loved his church family. Church, family and biological family were so important to Charles because he was away from home (HILLSBOROUGH) for so long serving in the Air Force for 27 years (mostly in Germany and England. (where he met his wife Beryl). He lived in California for 24 years after his retirement from the air force and was employed by the State of California. After his wife died, he moved back to Hillsborough and has been in North Carolina for 18 years. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Beryl Daphne Thompson, his parents, Tom and Becky Thompson, his brothers: Thomas A. Thompson, Jr. (Dickie), Robert Fred Thompson, James Kenneth Thompson, and his sister, Betty Thompson Collins, and infant twins Dot Thompson and Don Thompson. He is survived by his son Charles E. Thompson, Jr. (Linda), his only grandchild, Cody Thompson, and his son, Bernard Thompson, his sister, Katherine Cheek (Milton), sister-in-law, Nellie Thompson, and sister-in-law, Adilia (Di) Thompson, and many wonderful nieces and nephews, and his very special friend of 17 years, Doris Tillman and her son, Greg Tillman (Brenda) and daughter, Lori Barbier (David). Visitation will be Wednesday night, May 9, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at Walker's Funeral Home in Hillsborough. The funeral service will be at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 5043 Mt. Olive Church Road, Pittsboro, NC on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Mars Hill Baptist Church, 1418 NC Hwy. 57, Hillsborough, NC. Serving as pallbearers are Vaughn Jarrett, David Rosenthal, Tommy Thompson, Bobby Thompson, Ralph Whitfield, Paul Wilkerson, and Rocky Wilkerson. Officiating Ministers are Reverend David Crowther, Mt. Olive Baptist Church and Reverend Daniel Gregory, Mars Hill Baptist Church. The family would like to express special thanks to loving family and friends, all the doctors and nurses.
