ROXBORO- Samuel Edward "Monkey" Yarboro, also known as Mr. Ed, 87, of 300 Garrett Street, Roxboro, NC died Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Roxboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center with his daughter by his side.
Samuel was born on August 14, 1924 in Person County, son of the late Russ and Lessie Watson Yarboro. He was a graduate of Allensville High School, he served two tours in the US Army Air Corps with the 1st being a Corporal with the 928th Aviation Engineers Regiment and the 2nd being a Staff Sergeant with the 7461st A U Signal Corps. After 35 years of services with Collins and Aikman he retired and began working part-time with C&G Supply. Mr. Yarboro was a member of Rock Grove Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and Superintendent of Sunday School.
Over the years his hobbies were fishing, exercising, watching the western channel, and really loved gardening and growing plants and flowers especially large tomatoes.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years: Velma Hall Yarboro of the home; daughter: Pamela Joyce Yarboro (Ricky Debnam) of Roxboro; son: Samuel Wayne Yarboro (Tammy) of Oak Island, NC; granddaughter: Samantha Nicole Yarboro of Durham; Grandson: Joshua Edward Yarboro of Oak Island, NC; five sisters: Ruby Y. Martin (Ted) of Schley, Clarious Y. Blalock (Melvin) of Timberlake, Shelby Y. Dixon (Tink) of Hurdle Mills, Hilda Y. Seamster (Joe) of Chub Lake Community, and Kay Y. Blackard (Larry Meeler)of Timberlake; sister-in-law: Helen H.Gentry (Ted) of Allensville; brother-in-law: Ronald Long of Allensville; and numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother: Marshall W. Yarboro; sisters: Eglantene Y. Long and Mary Frances Y. Clayton; brother-in-laws: Irving G. Morton, Bradsher B. Clayton, and Bobby Gene Blackard.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Person Memorial and UNC Memorial Hospital for the excellent care that was given to Samuel prior to being cared for at Roxboro Health Care and Rehabilitation Center.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:50 AM Monday, May 7, 2012 at Rock Grove Baptist Church and other times at the home, 300 Garrett Street, Roxboro, NC 27573.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 7th at Rock Grove Baptist Church by the Rev Jimmy Pulliam.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contribution may be submitted to Rock Grove Baptist Church or a charity of ones choice.
